Flowers of the Forest - Sixth Suite for Solo Cello

(2013)
cello solo
Sixth suite for solo cello in four movements, First Lament & Maggot, Planxty, Jig, Reel & Slip Jig, Second Lament.

"Flowers of the Forest is the official lament of the 48th Highlanders and the Canadian Armed Forces. The melody was recorded in c.1615-25 in the John Skene of Halyards Manuscript as 'Flowres of the Forrest', although it might have been composed earlier as a lament for the army of James IV, slain with their king on the field of Flodden, September 1513. The suite opens with a partial version of the the laments and closes with the full tune. Harmonics, used in movements I & IV, are a feature in this suite."
